sMoney.EU

The Czech Rails shop Skvělý.CZ has just announced the release of sMoney.EU, a free expense tracking application written in (of course) Ruby on Rails. It sports translations for several languages, too, and joins the growing ranks of Rails applications with localized interfaces. Great job, Robert and team!

We’ve also recently launched a Rails expense tracking app called Walletproof (http://www.walletproof.com).

Well crap, I may as well post mine, too! (Personally I think it’s better than the above two, but you can decide for yourself…)

    http://foresightapp.com

It does recurring transactions, similar to Wallet Proof, but you can choose how it recurs, too. Foresight also sports a much more visual lens through which to view your money.

You can also check out Gastus (www.gastus.com) another free expense tracking app made with Ruby On Rails …

Looking good at first glance. However I must say that automated translation are always somewhat dodgy. Being French-speaking, I checked out the French translation… very clumsy I’m afraid. It’s clear that in general there’s still a long way to go on that front. In other words consider competent human translators for your own sites if you can afford it!

Whilst we’re all talking about apps we’ve built that do the same thing…I built AssetsGraphed: http://assetsgraphed.com/

It’s simple, isn’t in beta and has sparkline graphs. I tinker with it when I get chance. It was even reviewed at The Rails Way by two members of Rails core. Maybe you’ll like it too!

Walletproof was the only site that seemed to have a decent privacy policy that explicitly promised not to share/sell your data. However even with a decent privacy policy would would you really trust a third party to collate all your expenses into one database and keep it secure?

    or…

    Active Budget… http://activebudget.org/

it lets you track your burrito purchases :-)

and has pretty graphs, and is free.

    Also see: http://www.quicken.com

It’s desktop-based, so you can keep it more secure. It’s got a LOT more features and pretty graphs than anything listed above.

It’s $30, but if you can’t afford $30, you’ve got a lot more money problems than any expense tracking website can fix.
