Agile Web Development with Rails, 2nd Edition

How fitting. Just as we’re wrapping up Rails 1.2, the book that covers it all has gone into print. I’m talking about Agile Web Development with Rails, 2nd Edition, of course. The book that has taught the vast majority of all Rails developers the ropes.
Yes, yes, it’ll be available in all its paper glory around December 15th. But you can actually get the final PDF now. Dave Thomas just released the same version as was shipped off to the printers. If you’d like to get access to the information now, but still enjoy reading long sections from paper, there’s the combo pack.
The timing is great and so are the sections on RJS, migrations, resources, respond_to, polymorphic associations, and all the other new-fangled wonders that has been introduced to Rails since the last version of the book. Go get it.

Just finished the first one. Looking forward to (re)reading this.
I read the PDF beta. It’s simply brilliant, well written and even if you’ve worked with Rails for a while you still might learn something. Definitely recommended.
Ive been subscribing to the beta of the pdf for the last 6 months, its great!! Big ups to Dave Thomas!
How is it compared to the first one ?!
There are large sections re-written to include all the changes and additions to Rails. I bought the first edition paperback, then got the 2nd edition PDF. I just ordered the 2nd edition paperback. If you work with Rails, this is one of the essentials on your bookshelf.
Will there be sections about REST in the 2nd edition, or will it only cover rails up to 1.1.6?
What Matthijis said—will it cover the 1.2 release?
@Matthijs: the new book covers REST and targets Rails 1.2.
As Mark and stuart have said – the book is a must have and as Dave Thomas said in an email to pdf beta readers “the book is written as if 1.2 was already out.”
This book as been a great tool in teaching me ruby, rails and the agile methods. The beta book program was a great idea and lots of suggestions, bugs, typos and other issues were identified and fixed by many eyeballs. I have downloaded the updated version and look forward to reading, understanding and implimenting the new features of RoR 1.2.
I can’t find any of the REST stuff in it.
So don’t us folks with a 1st edition get an ‘upgrade’ discount? I don’t expect to pay nothing for what is clearly a lot of work, but I don’t really want to pay again for stuff I’ve already got.
When will the pdf be available on bit torrent ? how much does the torrent version cost?
Just bought the book combo. Hopefully will be doing a lot of Rails devving in 2007 :)
A bit off topic: Any chance for a screencast that demonstrates the changes in rails since 1.1?
Bugsy: the index in my PDF shows REST stuff on 408-422
I got it now. They’re there. Thanks.
I have been following the beta and I think this is a great book. Well done. I give a tip of the hat to big daddy Dave T and anyone else involved in with the project.
Also included is a well-written, step-by-step chapter by James Duncan Davidson on “Deployment and Production” where he walks you through using Apache, MySQL, Mongrel, and Capistrano to systematically migrate your prize winning app to production.
December 15th, wowza, that is my birthday! Heh, I already bought the PDF quite some time ago though while it was in very early beta. Very cool though, it is great a book—highly recommended!
Will the book also be available on Amazon.de on 15th of December?
In Amazon.de it’s announced for the 5th of January.
Got mine for xmas!
